Failure of maleic hydrazide to act as a sulfhydryl or carbonyl reagent.

چکیده

A wide variety of molecular mechanisms have been proposed to explain the actions of the synthetic plant growth regulator maleic hydrazide (3). One of the most prominent of these theories holds that MH2 acts as a sulfhydryl reagent (7), and more recently it has been suggested that MH acts as a carbonyl reagent (12). The idea that MH might react with sulfhydryl groups was supported by reports that it can inhibit respiration in several plant tissues and can block several sulfhydryl enzymes (13). Several subsequent studies, however,

Paper Chromatography of Steroids

In Paper I of this series (1) a method was described for the paper chromatographic analysis of certain ketonic steroids as hydrazones formed with Girard’s Reagent T. When that technique was applied to the adrenal cortical hormones, however, certain deficiencies appeared. (a) The RI values of the individual steroid-Reagent T hydrazones were not sufficiently different to permit identification. (b...

Factors affecting the formation of gum by Alcaligenes faecalis.

Maleic hydrazide (1, 2-dihydropyridazine-3, 6dione) is an organic plant growth regulator which has found use in such varied areas as prevention of sucker formation in tobacco, prevention of sprouting of some stored vegetables, and as a herbicide. In commercial application the diethanolamine salt (diethanolammonium maleic hydrazide or diethanolammonium-1 ,2-dihydropyridazine-3, 6-dione) is often...

Staining of blood cells with periodic acid/salicyloyl hydrazide (PA-SH). A fluorescent method for demonstrating glycogen.

By J. BURNS AND P. B. NEAME T lIE PERIODIC ACID-SCHIFF (PAS ) REACTION is generally accepted as the method of choice for demonstrating glycogen in blood cells. This reaction depends upon the presence, in glycogen, of vicinal glycols which are oxidized by periodic acid to dialdehydes. The latter are subsequently condensed with Schiff’s reagent to produce a magenta-red product, visible by light m...

Ability of Allium cepa L. root tips and Tradescantia pallida var. purpurea in N-nitrosodiethylamine genotoxicity and mutagenicity evaluation

N -nitroso compounds, such as N -nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA), can be formed by the reaction of secundary amines with nitrosating agents, and are suspected to be involved in tumors in humans. NDEA has been considered a weak carcinogen in genotoxic assays probably due to the inefficient nitrosamine activation system that is used and/or to the efficient repair system. In this work, we evaluated the...
